As some of you know, I'm moving to Paris. "Why" you may ask.
Wel-l-l-l-l.....several reasons.
I am a Francophile. In my opinion, Paris is the most beautiful city in the world.....the language, food, art, music, fashion, architecture, style.....the best. For years, I have dreamed of living there.
I have also long wanted to attain a level of fluency in the French language and know that the only way for me to do that is to live in a French-speaking environment.
Add to that the fact that Patrick will be in Paris from September through June studying for a Master's degree in French through Middlebury College and my sister, Carol, is living in Rapallo, Italy for a year.
During the past year and a half, there have been many changes in my life. I find myself in a period of transition. The stars aligned, the time seemed right, and in my heart I knew it WAS right. "Move to Paris," it said.
So, after months of planning, endless "to do" lists, and jumping through numerous bureaucratic hoops, it's really happening! I've signed a lease on a lovely apartment in the Marais, registered for intensive French language classes and have an audition scheduled for the Paris Choral Society. I leave on August 30th.
I am of course, excited about this new chapter in my life, but also a bit apprehensive. I know life as an expat is not all champagne and escargot. There will be frustrations with, among other things, the language, bureaucracy, attitude and grey skies. But I'll have la Place des Voges, Notre Dame, the sparkling Tour d'Eiffel, indeed all of Paris to keep my spirits up.
I invite you to travel this new path with me. I'll be posting about my Paris adventures, so check back regularly to see what's happening! A bientôt.....
