Hier et aujourd’hui, je suis allée au cinéma. Hier j’étais surpris que le tarif était seulement 4 Euros, quand d’habitude, c’est 11-12 Euros. Mais quand c’était 4 Euros encore ce soir, j’ai fait les recherches de savoir pourquoi. Et voila ! C’est « Le Printemps du Cinéma ! » Depuis 19 ans, durant 3 jours exceptionnels (cette année, les dimanche 18, lundi 19 et mardi 20 mars), le cinéma est au tarif unique de 4 Euros dans toute la France, pour tous les films et à toutes les séances ! Organisée par la Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français (FNCF) - qui regroupe les 5800 salles de cinéma en France – le programme encourage les Français d’aller au cinéma. Bien sûr, c’est une evénement populaire par les Français et maintenant par moi aussi.
Yesterday and today, I went to the movies. Yesterday, I was surprised that the ticket cost only 4 Euros, when usually it’s 11 or 12, but quickly forgot about it. But then today, it was again 4 Euros and, though the young man selling me the ticket explained in rapid French why, I had to do the research when I got home to understand. And voila…..it’s a promotion called “The Spring of the Cinema.” For the past 19 years, for 3 days only, this year March 18, 19 and 20, the price of a movie ticket is only 4 Euros in all of France, for all films and all times. It’s the brainchild of the National Federation of French Cinema, which includes all 5800 movie theatres in France, to encourage movie attendance. As you can well imagine, it’s very popular with the French and now, me as well!
Donc, hier j’ai vu “Call Me by Your Name”, un trés beau film mis en Italie. C’est une histoire sensible de premier amour. Et ce soir, j’ai vu « Pentagon Papers » avec la fabuleuse Meryl Streep et aussi fabuleux Tom Hanks. C’est intérresant pour moi parce que je me souviens Daniel Ellsberg et la publication des papiers du Pentagone.
So yesterday I saw « Call Me by Your Name, » a very beautiful film set in the Italian countryside. It’s a lovely story of first love. And this evening, I finally saw “The Post” (called “Pentagon Papers” in France) with the fabulous Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. It’s interesting for me because I remember Daniel Ellsberg and the publication of the Pentagon Papers, but certainly was not aware of the tremendous pressure on and fascinating process through which Katherine Graham ultimately decided to publish the papers. And what a joy to observe two such seasoned actors working together for the first time!
Le Printemps du Cinéma…..juste encore une raison j'aime la France !
