Hier après-midi j’ai découvert un joli jardin qui est situé au milieu du Marais à la rue Payenne. Je n’ai jamais auparavant vu ce jardin. Il s’appelle Square Georges-Caïn et il est bordé par le Musée Carnavalet, le musée merveilleux de l’histoire de Paris. Georges Caïn était peintre, écrivain et conservateur du musée de 1897 à 1914.
Yesterday I made another discovery…a lovely, little garden located in the middle of the Marais on the rue Payenne. Called Georges-Caïn Square, it sits next to the marvelous Carnavalet Museum, which chronicles the history of the City of Paris. Georges Caïn was a painter, writer and curator of the museum from 1897 to 1914.

Il n’y avait que quelques personnes là. C’est apparemment un secret bien gardé! Tout autour du jardin, sur les murs et dans les coins, sont trésors du musée, notamment le fronton du pavillon central du Palais des Tuileries et une rosace provenant de l’ancien Hôtel de Ville. Et au centre du jardin, au milieu d’un parterre de fleurs, est une statue en bronze d’une jeune femme nue par l’artiste français Aristide Maillol.
Surprisingly there were only a few people there….it’s apparently a well-kept secret ! All around the garden, on the walls and in the corners, are treasures from the museum, including a bas-relief pediment and columns from the Tuileries Palace and a rosette from the old town hall. In the middle of the garden, surrounded by flowerbeds, is a bronze statue of a nude young woman by French artist Aristide Maillol.

Je pense que les pièces archéologiques dispersées partout dans le jardin le rendent unique. Ce petit jardin calme, joli et inconnu alors me plaît beaucoup. Je vais revenir souvent avec un bon livre et prendre plaisir en Square Georges-Caïn...c'est vraiment un bijou caché!
I think the archeological pieces scattered throughout the garden make it unique and unlike any other garden in Paris. I really like then this small garden, so pretty and best of all, for the most part, unknown. I will return often…most likely with a good book….and take much pleasure in this beautiful and quiet spot…it is indeed a hidden gem!
